Tax Course
Ask a student to name the most difficult subject in college, and
chances are, youˇ¦ll receive a three letter word for an answer: tax.
Indeed, a tax course is one of, if not the most, dreaded subjects in
our tertiary level of education. Most degrees donˇ¦t require a tax
course, and most certainly, these degrees are the envy of those who
have to endure the hardships of the subject. The taxing demands of a
tax course, no pun intended, stem from a variety of reasons:
* A tax course involves laws, and studying laws do not only require
memorization but clear and deep comprehension as well.
* A tax course involves numbers. And not everyone is good with
numbers.
* A tax course touches on many branches of study where one is
intimately related with the others.
When I was in college, I found my tax course fascinating and fearful
at the same time. Fascinating because such a field of study would
present so many interesting topics that would greatly aid me in many
aspects of what was then the professional life I have envisioned for
myself. Fearful because the same study presented so many challenges
that I thought were rather insurmountable.
But guess what? I managed to pass my course and eventually earn my
degreeˇK perhaps without flying colors but with much experience to
show for what I have learned, nonetheless.
How did I do it? Yes, I could tell you about a lot of fanciful
tactics to conquer your tax studies, but that would be gravely
romanticizing what should be kept simple. The fact is, the way to
pass your tax course is a secret that is only made as such because
of our denial of what should be done even before we consider giving
it a shot?
And what is this secret in conquering your tax course?
Persistence
Persistence, of course, presumes that you have taken the initial
steps to try your best to meet the challenges that await you. And
when you encounter some rough sailing during the semester offering
such a course, you have to keep your mind in the game and continue
trying. That, my friend, is what persistence is all about.
Your tax course may demand you to read voluminous statutes, may
require you to memorize countless equations, and may necessitate a
mountain load of calculations, but you should never waver. You have
what it takes, and all you have to do is to remember that fact and
try.
